So the same dealership that I bought my e90 at has a Mini Clubman. I got to sit in it and get a good looking at it inside and out on Sunday, because the owner leaves all of the cars unlocked all the time. After that bit of experience I want one reeeeeeal bad.
Thankfully I don’t want that one. 1 because its BEIGE, and B because its not a Cooper S.
and also I found this one.
I have always liked the Clubman. It’s styling, performance, and utility are right up my hatchback ally. Altho since it has barn doors can you really call it a HATCHback?
I found this one in Burnsville for a reasonable price, with really low miles. My wife is going to stay at her sister’s this weekend so maybe me and my Bro in law will make a little road trip.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I know Minis have a bad reputation but I don’t care. I’ve dipped my toes into the German car waters now I’m ready to go off the deep end.

Would you be trading in the E90?

A quick piece of anecdata -
A friend just had to replace his radiator in his Countryman. 5 years, 30k babied m iles, the seam split wide open. $700 with labor.

Yes. Which is a terrible idea as that car probably has another 50,000 worry free miles on it

It’s pretty and small and I like it. Seeing one and sitting in one makes me happy. It’s a darling of a car... that could regularly blow up in my face

are you commenting on how the rear end looks like an old fridge? I’d have to agree and I like it.

Sometimes you gotta go off the deep end.

Me too. It’s such an odd car but I’m happy it exists. A manual JCW would be so much fun

I seriously wanted to buy one at one point

I would only consider it if they can make the deal really sweet. Like switch cars with no additional debt sweet.

I test-drove a used auto JCW several years ago and I couldn’t believe the power. Was over 90 on the interstate before I knew it.

It looks to be in rough shape. It’s missing it’s front tow hook cover, the roof antenna is either aftermarket or lost its cover, no available Carfax, and a slew of bad online reviews of the dealer

Yeah I just happened to find one. My parents live in CT so I’ve been looking for cars over there hoping t find better deals, and more availability

We test drove one when we needed a new car for my wife, and I really liked it. I really liked how it drove, and it was roomier than I had expected. Unfortunately, that one had a severe smoke smell.
I tried to find another to look at, but she decided she’d prefer a bare bones new car to a nicer used one.

Shes a smart lady. Us stupid car guys need sensible ladies .
I had looked for them last time I was shopping as well, but I just couldn’t find any. I did find a regular “ hardtop” Cooper S but I really dont like them and knew it would be way too small. With the Clubman I can ge t into the back seat without folding the front seat. All that extra cargo room is nic e too.

Can you find one with a Carmax warranty?

There is a 2011 2 door Cooper S that I could have transferred , but I really dont like the normal 2 door.

I mean, is it really any worse of an idea than an aging BMW wagon? The Mini basically is an aging BMW wagon, just with front wheel drive. Seems like six of one, or half a dozen of another to me.

Wife: 2017 3 pedal Subaru Forester
Me: 2015 Honda Grom, 2002 BMW M3, 2001 Ford Ranger, 1975 BMW 1502.

Oh, I agree. The Clubman is way better :)
I like the shooting brake/wagon vibe.

They did an update in or around 2014 that I understand to be a big improvement, particularly in the addition of the 2.0 turbo 4-cyl, same engine as my wife’s 2015 Mini Cooper S 4-door (which we both love).
We had a 2019 Cooper S Clubman as a loaner for a few weeks and it was pretty nice. I’d put it on my list as a car I’d buy new or nearly new, because awd manual wagon.

Yeah those 2014s are still too pricey for me. At least right now. It be different is I knew the E90 could be a significant down payment. Right now I don’t even know if I do better than getting what I owe for it

Clubman you say?
I never saw one in person before.

It’s cheap because 2010 was the last year of the abomination known as the N14 engine. The N14 is a disaster and is the #1 reason why Mini has such a reputation for unreliability. If you are looking for a second generation Mini do yourself a favor and get either a non-S model or a 2011+ S model with the vastly improved N18 engine. The N14 is nothing but trouble and should be avoided like the plague.

Mmmm yes. There was a Honda B series swapped old Clunman on BaT a few months ago. The want was strong

Do it! I loved mine. Barn doors and dual rear wipers are the best.
Just be sure to keep after the maintenance. Probably need walnut blasting on the valves and anything you can do to check up on the timing chain and tensioner.

I missed this post a few weeks back but I’ve been think about trying to swap my beetle for a clubman so I decided to search Oppo. Funny enough, the Luther car is gone it appears but I’d much prefer a 2011.
The clubman would be sweet as I could have a roof rack(which beetle cannot), feels smaller to drive but about the same interior space, and getting two sets of tires would be cheap cause they have small wheels. might even be easier to get my daughter in the back.
But probably not going to be test driving in the next week what with the horrible temps.

You can’t put a roof rack in a Beetle? That’s weird
